Suminagashi is a traditional ink marbling technique from Japan. The ink floats on water, and unlike other marbling processes it requires no other mediums to assist the process. It is a very elemental and meditative practice. As the ink sits on a very temporal surface, it is subject to any air movement in the room or vibrations on the floor/surface.
These works speak to land forms and aerial landscapes. The colours and fine detailed organic forms, shaped by elemental forces as the land is around us over time. |
