TAKAYNA
is one of the last remaining ancient rainforests, nestled in the top corner of Tasmania. Even though this region is home to many unique endangered species and could be listed as one of the most unique world heritage sites, this entire region is at risk of being logged or mined at any time. Currently, many people are trying desperately to save this region before it is destroyed. Whole areas are being logged, and sites set ablaze to clear “debris” - destroying what little life remains. Once cut “sustainable” practices of revegetation are deemed acceptable to excuse this violent use of the land. Plantation areas of mono-culture trees stand like an army of ghosts compared with the ancient forest. If we lose Takayna it very likely will never regenerate, with the need for thousands of years to establish the ancient rainforest canopy, and climate change irrevocably shifting the world. The forest can’t speak, but we can listen ... We are not powerless, and it is not too late. Find out more with the team from Bob Brown on ways to support, raise awareness, or learn more about Takayna here.
